Introducing Y Cyber: HWG Sababa’s New Business Unit for OT Security

Milan, June 11, 2025 – HWG Sababa announces the launch of Y Cyber, a new Business Unit fully dedicated to industrial cybersecurity, with a focus on protecting critical infrastructure and Operational Technology (OT) systems. This initiative addresses the growing need to safeguard industrial plants, automation systems, and critical infrastructure from increasingly sophisticated cyber threats.

Y Cyber is a strategic extension of HWG Sababa, concentrating exclusively on industrial security. Its goal is to deliver advanced, specialized solutions for high-criticality sectors such as energy, utilities, automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, transportation, logistics, and the chemical-pharmaceutical industry.

Led by Roberto Caviglia, OT Team Leader at HWG Sababa, the new operational unit will offer solutions tailored to the specific needs of industrial security – supported by one of the few globally active OT SOCs and CERTs.

The numbers are clear: according to the Clusit Report 2025, 85% of OT attacks originate from IT environments due to insufficient segregation between the two domains, while 73% of organizations experienced breaches in 2024 that impacted OT systems or hybrid IT/OT environments.

OT systems require specific skills, services, and tailored solutions. The creation of this Business Unit is a natural step to strengthen our role in protecting industrial infrastructures and to provide vertical, customized cybersecurity services,” says Alessio Aceti, CEO of HWG Sababa.

The complexity of OT architectures demands a highly specialized approach. Y Cyber was born to address these challenges with dedicated expertise, tools, and a proactive vision,” adds Roberto Caviglia, Head of the Business Unit.

To underscore the project’s significance, Y Cyber will benefit from strategic partnerships with leading OT-sector companies, including Phoenix Contact, Power Automation, and Errevi Automation. The company is also committed to continually expanding its network of collaborations, aiming to strengthen its market presence.

While the shift toward digital factories is now a key driver of competitiveness and market success, it is crucial not to lose sight of cybersecurity. The rapid adoption of internet-connected technologies across the industrial landscape inevitably brings increased exposure to cyber risks. At Phoenix Contact, we recognized this early on: since 2018, we have certified our secure development process with TÜV in accordance with IEC62443-4-1, and we continue to release security-by-design products aligned with the IEC62443-4-2 standard. Cybersecurity, however, is not just about products – it’s about a combination of processes and best practices. That’s why our partnership with HWG Sababa aims to offer the market a perfect synergy of services and products, uniting two industry leaders to guide clients through a gradual adaptation to new European cybersecurity and safety regulations,” states Francesco Lanzani, President & CEO of Phoenix Contact.

Among the strategic objectives of Y Cyber are the protection of critical infrastructure, the development of an integrated portfolio of services and solutions delivered through a dedicated OT Security Operations Center (SOC), and the support provided to companies in reaching compliance with the most relevant industry regulations, including NIS2, ISO 62443, NMR, and CRA. A key focus of the new Business Unit is also the promotion of an OT cybersecurity culture, fostered through structured training paths designed for all levels within an organization.

Y Cyber addresses three main categories of stakeholders:

  • Companies managing industrial plants or critical infrastructure, responsible for OT environment availability and security
  • Resellers of OT technologies and services who design, integrate, and maintain industrial systems for their clients, often sharing cybersecurity responsibilities
  • OT technology manufacturers producing industrial control systems, PLCs, SCADA platforms, IIoT devices, and other critical components, with the goal of embedding security into their products
